The productive operation is based on the centralization of the main functions, integrated with a partial " productive decentralization ". Special laboratories have been selected by the single typology of the workings, the coordination and managerial and qualitative control of Paolo Gelli and its staff.

Every successive search begins from here. The raw material encloses itself on all its potentialities, expressing the physical characteristics that will help one choose one working rather than another. Paolo Gelli personally takes care of the search, selection and choice of hides. Every type skin comes accurately selected and acquired according to the requirements of the customer. It is for this reason that the staff of Gelli takes care of directly the purchasing of the shearling from Spain, the suede from India, the sheepskin from Africa and Persia, and the cattle skin from Italy. The location of the company in the district of Santa Croce (where 1700 companies specialize in the tannery and the working of leather skin), allows Gelli to coordinate and to control the several phases or typology of the workings- from the dye to the aging process, to the operations and workings which carry out the effects of polish, oily, metalic, pull up etc.

From a figure or from a head sample supplied by the customer, we can begin the phase of the realization of the prototype. The realization of the card sample and the prototype comes entrusted to particularly skillful and characterized staff in this type of activity. The prototype is sent to the customer who will be able to speak of eventual modifications.

The cut is executed by hand, upon selection of six equal skins for color and grain. The cut comes carried out head for head, discarding skins with defects or coloration, also only imperceptibly diverse.

In order to assure that every product has style and quality, Gelli selects all the materials, and puts all the particulars in scrupulous and punctual ways: lining choices and cuts, hinge choices, threads, and adhesives.

The confection of the heads is made by hand, organized on working chains, selected based on the characteristics of the final product that have to be obtained and the amount of heads to produce.

In another laboratory, the finishing operations are carried out- which consists of attaching the buttons, of eventual coats of arms, labels, and accessories.
